Illinois State Bank to Retire U.S. Flags on Nov. 20
Public invited to observe as Scouts perform traditional flag-retirement ceremony
LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. – Illinois State Bank today announced that dozens of worn and tattered flags gathered through the bank’s annual flag collection program will be honorably retired in a ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20. This free ceremony is open to the public and will be held at the First Congregational Church, 461 Pierson Street in Crystal Lake.
Blackhawk Boy Scout Council Troop No. 168 will prepare the flags and present them for retirement in a solemn flag-burning ceremony, in accordance with tradition.
“We’re very proud to host this event in conjunction with the Boy Scouts,” said Cindy Watts, branch manager for Illinois State Bank. “A traditional flag retirement ceremony is a moving event that everyone should experience – it’s one way that we can show respect for our flag and remember all the men and women that have fought to protect it.”
