Illinois State Bank to Hold Community Shredding Day at McHenry County Branches on Saturday, May 2

Public invited to bring personal documents for free, secure shredding, as well as old computers, cell phones, TVs and other electronics for recycling

Participants can also enter drawing for Wisconsin Dells weekend, gas and spring cleaning supplies

LAKE IN THE HILLS, Ill. – Illinois State Bank today announced it will hold its annual Community Shredding Day on Saturday, May 2, 2009. People can stop by either of Illinois State Bank’s two McHenry County locations from 9 a.m. to noon to have outdated personal documents securely shredded. The bank is also partnering with Computer Recycling Center to collect old electronic devices for recycling, including computers, cell phones, televisions, DVD players and more.

The event is free and open to the public. Anyone bringing in papers for shredding or electronics for recycling will also be able to enter a drawing for a free, two-night stay at the Wilderness Territory in Wisconsin Dells, $150 in free gas cards and baskets of free spring cleaning supplies, said Chet Ward, president of Illinois State Bank.

“Properly disposing of materials that contain personal information is one of the best ways to guard against identity theft, and Illinois State Bank encourages our neighbors and friends to take advantage of this free service during our annual Community Shredding Day,” Ward said. “This year, our event is scheduled during prime spring cleaning time, and as people clear out closets, desk drawers and boxes, we hope to collect even more outdated documents for disposal.”

Documents for shredding may include old bank statements and other papers listing bank account information, credit card statements and documents listing credit card numbers, credit applications, pre-approved credit offers, old paycheck stubs and documents listing Social Security numbers.

All shredded materials will then be recycled. In addition, the bank will provide information about how to prevent identity theft, what personal documents should be kept and for how long, green spring cleaning tips and more. Additional information about the Community Shredding Day – as well as a listing of electronics items that will be accepted for recycling – is available on the bank’s Web site at shredit.illinoisstatebank.com and at any Illinois State Bank office.

Illinois State Bank is a division of North Shore bank, which was founded in 1923 and has assets of $1.9 billion and 43 offices throughout eastern Wisconsin and northeastern Illinois. Current Illinois State Bank locations are at 1301 Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills and 1689 N. Curran Road in McHenry. Locate an office.
