Illinois State Bank History - Celebrating 85 years of service!
From our 1923 founding in Shorewood, Wisconsin, to our current family of 42 branch offices, North Shore Bank covers communities on Wisconsin's eastern edge - from Kenosha in the south to Green Bay and the Door County peninsula in the north and has nearly 2 billion dollars in assets.
As North Shore Building & Loan Association, we began our operations in the back room of Perkins Hardware Store in Shorewood with $22,000 in assets and started building our branch network in the seventies, opening our first branch office in Milwaukee in 1972. As a reflection of our wider range of financial products and services, our name was changed to North Shore Bank in 1989.
Growth continued with mergers and the acquisition of multiple branch banks throughout Eastern Wisconsin, including the Racine and Green Bay areas. By the bank's 75th anniversary in 1998, North Shore Bank had 33 locations.
Since then, expansion has continued with the opening of a Kenosha branch and the acquisition of offices in the Fox Valley, Union Grove and Metro Milwaukee areas.
In the spring of 2004 the bank opened the first full-service bank branch inside El Rey Nana's Market Mexican Grocery Store. The branch inside the south-side Milwaukee store is the first bank branch to be located in a metro Milwaukee ethnic supermarket and is part of North Shore Bank's ongoing effort to improve access to banking opportunities and provide bilingual assistance, and new services for the area's Latino residents.
